More than 650 students who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to go to university will undertake studies at Deakin University between 2023 and 2027.

The additional places are part of the Albanese Government’s commitment to deliver an extra 20,000 Commonwealth supported places over two years.

Minister for Education, Jason Clare MP and Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker MP will today visit Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus in Geelong to see the world-class facilities that some of these students will benefit from during their studies.

The additional university places are for people from poor families, from rural and remote Australia, people with disability and Indigenous Australians.

The places are being used for sub-bachelor and bachelor courses to skill-up Australians and provide more opportunities for students to study in areas of national priority, including nursing, teaching, engineering and technology.

The 652 additional places provided to Deakin University over the next two years include:

  • 93 in education
  • 149 in nursing
  • 81 in IT
  • 23 in health professions
  • 26 in engineering
