Sport in Queenscliff is set for a brighter future thanks to the completion of new sports lighting at the Queenscliff Recreation Reserve.

Federal Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker, joined by Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Ross Ebbels, and members of the Queenscliff Football Netball Club, met at the reserve to officially flick the switch on new light towers, funded by the Albanese Labor Government with a $160,000 commitment prior to the 2022 Federal Election.

Ms Coker said the upgraded lighting would open the ground to more community use including casual play and local events.

“It is a fantastic day for the ‘Coutas’ and its many members. These new lights are a game-changer and I’m so proud to have delivered this commitment alongside the club and council – the community of Queenscliff can now use the footy ground day and night.,” Ms Coker said.

"The Queenscliff Football Netball Club has been around for close to 140 years – it’s a cornerstone of the community – and I’m so proud that we’ve delivered these lighting upgrades which will make a significant difference for the ‘Coutas’ and the wider community for many years to come.” 

“Congratulations to the club and the entire community of Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale – I’d also like to thank the Borough of Queenscliffe for its work in delivering this fantastic project.”

Borough of Queenscliffe, Mayor Ross Ebbels said the lights are a fantastic addition to the major redevelopment of the QFNC facilities over recent years.

“The upgraded lighting makes way for safer and improved experiences for players and spectators alike,” Mr Ebbels said.

“Council is delighted to have contributed to this project, one that will benefit the Couta’s, and the community for many years yet. Congratulations to the club and well done to all who contributed to the project.”
